Reline Ladle/Brick Chute

Lowering and stacking bricks to reline ladles required 24 man hours of bending, twisting, and heavy lifting, resulting in both ergonomic and safety concerns. After no commercial solution was found, an internal team was developed to design and build a safe, comfortable, and efficient solution. The new brick chute saves 12 hours per week (624 hours per year) and has reduced ergonomic injuries and safety issues. Keeping the project in house engaged employees and gave them a sense of accomplishment. Great job and congratulations to the Gerdau Ameristeel Charlotte facility on winning two years in a row!
